Weight for 10/30/2008

Hi everyone!

Didn't have a great sleep last night thanks to my daughter waking up at 2:00 A.M. and crying for what seemed like FOREVER. Her Dr. told us that there is no need to keep giving her a bottle in the middle of the night anymore. Too bad she doesn't see it this way.

Anyway; yesterday was my first day back at the gym since I got that nasty cold and let me tell you, missing the gym for even a few days hurts. I felt tired and weak. I can only go to the gym while here at work so I need to make sure that no matter how busy I get I make the time for at least a 1 hour, 30 minute workout.

Weighed myself this morning and was 214lbs. Weird how much weight can fluctuate.

I took my resting heart rate before lifting my head from the pillow and it was 71.

I had a egg white flat bread sandwich with turkey sausage for breakfast since we were on the run this morning. I will have my mid morning snack around 10-10:30.

The DREADED Before Photos

Well, let me first warn you all what you are about to see isn't pretty. This is what letting your body go looks like at 33. All my life I was an athlete and one that worked very hard when I was playing. When I didn't have hockey anymore, got a job sitting on my rear end all day I got soft. Well now you will know why I am doing P90X. The only good thing about these pictures is if I stick with the program and follow it to a T my after photos will be dramatic.

Now for the pics. Be gentle.

Eating right is half the battle

I was happy to hear that P90x comes with it's own nutrition plan. As hard as the workouts are going to be it is learning how to better manage my food intake that is going to challenge me the most. I can no longer eat anything I want. I don't get enough activity in anymore in order to burn off all those empty calories. The nutrition guide has three different approaches to your diet:
  • Portion Approach
  • Meal Plan Approach
  • Quick Approach

I am going to attempt the portion approach. Each of the approaches has 3 phases, the fat shredding phase in which you limit carbs, the Energy Booster phase, which brings carbs back in, and finally the Endurance maximizer phase.

It is funny because this program actually has you eat more than what you think you will need. The whole idea is to eat many times throughout the day to keep your system burning calories and out of fat storing mode. I was watching the biggest loser last night and one of the trainers yelled at this guy for not eating enough. It seems backwards but this is the way to go.

The program requires you to write down what you are eating and at what times, so I will be doing that and posting them here.

The five day count down!

5 days of the old Matt Stapleton left. I have to be totally honest and tell all of you that I have been eating like CRAP for the past two weeks. I guess it must be some sort of cleansing of the soul ..LOL. The funny thing is I was feeling much better when I was eating clean then I have been feeling the last two weeks. I am looking forward to getting on the diet and eating like I was only a few short weeks ago.

I am finally getting past this nasty cold that went through our family. It sucked the life out of me completely and caused me to take over a week off from the gym. I plan to get a flu shot in the next week or so because I really do not want anything to knock me off track once I begin the program. It is funny how missing the gym only for a few days can really impact the way you feel. I was feeling great when I was going to the gym everyday, my cold and being idle has set me back quite a bit.

I weighed myself while in the middle of my cold and I was down to 215. Yesterday I was back up to 218.

I will be heading to the gym this afternoon for a light workout and to try to get my before photos taken. I will try to write more tonight about my mindset going into day one.

Thanks for reading.

Sick, Sick, Sick

It is 6:17 a.m. and I feel a nice good head cold taking over me. My wife stayed home from work yesterday because she felt lousy and I guess I am getting what she has. I guess I am glad that I am getting it now because I tend to get nasty sinus headaches which would surely delay any P90x workouts scheduled.

I didn't get a chance to take my "before" pictures yesterday. Hopefully I can get to them today. In my next post I am going to discuss the p90x nutrition plan.

Decide. Commit. Succeed.

Well a few days ago my P90X workout program arrived in the mail. I call it an ass kicking in a box. I couldn't wait to open it up and find out what was in store for me: Two Words: BEAT DOWN!

This excercise program is no joke. This is going to really take a serious effort to stick with the workouts and diet. Hopefully I have the strength and gusto to stick with the program and "Bring It" for the 13 weeks.

Follow along with me as I sweat, swear, and push my body to the limit. Hopefully at the end of this journey I will have transformed myself into a fit machine
